Tony Cribb

Tony Cribb has been producing artwork from his Christchurch based studio since 2000. His works can best be described as quirky with a dark sense of humour.

Some works are loaded with meaning; others appear to have none at all. He gets a great deal of enjoyment out of creating works that are slightly vague. “I accept that not everyone will connect with each piece I do. They may see nothing where another person will see it as a defining moment in their lives, often for reasons that differ from my intention. And that is great. There is no right and wrong with art. It’s all opinion. I don’t set out trying to appeal to everyone or anyone. I paint these works for me, and if someone else makes a connection with one – fantastic.”

Over the year’s inspiration has come in the form of Jim Henson, Ralph Steadman, Tim Burton, Colin McCahon, Shaun Tan, Shane Cotton and many everyday occurrences from living life. In 2003 Tony won the Telecom Yellow Pages Art Award for the Christchurch region. He currently has works exhibiting in Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin and Queenstown.

As Tony continues to develop his style and approach, admirers of his work just can’t get enough of it.

Tony's work is beautifully individual and every piece has a little piece of him included.
